Auto Insurance Quotes

It’s a great feeling to submit your auto information to a given insurance company and get a low, reasonable set of quotes in return. It tells you a lot of good things about yourself: you’re a good driver, you have a clean history, and you’ve maintained your car well. Yes, good auto insurance quotes can really brighten your day when you think about them.

But be wary. The excellent auto insurance quotes may not necessarily reflect your expertise. They may be of a low rate because the insurance company you’ve picked isn’t very good, or the coverage they’re offering isn’t as comprehensive as you like.

Before you act on an excellent quote always check the company behind it first. Do some background digging. There are innumerable ways to do so online, and all are fairly easy to find if you’ve got an hour or two you can dedicate to detective work.

First, how well is the company rated? Go on comparison websites and check how their quotes stack up against the competition. If they’re rated poorly, skip ‘em and find a different company for your auto.

Second, make sure they’re actually licensed to sell insurance in your area. Some places - especially online - well give you quotes on insurance they’re not even allowed to distribute.

Third, are there any complaints against their service? The Internet is especially good for this, and there’s entire sites dedicated to outing poor insurers.

Fourth, how long will it take before any of your traffic violations disappear from their records? This is of particular interest to drivers with a poor auto history. If it’s a long time, find a different company that’s more forgiving.

And, finally, what do their deductible look like? Find that out rather than just looking at their rates. More often than not with insurance companies the higher your deductible the lower your rate. Thus the company may be forcing you to spend lots from the outset and will provide lower rates as a result. If you can’t afford high deductibles from the beginning (which is recommended if possible) then look elsewhere.
